The existing standard, the Hybrid III, which has been around since the 1970s, weighs only 108 pounds and stands at a mere 4 feet 11 inches, representing the smallest 5% of American women.
The new THOR-05F is set to revolutionize safety testing. Equipped with over 150 advanced sensors, it's designed to be more durable, accurate, and lifelike, allowing for the collection of three times as many injury measurements compared to current dummies.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy stated that after years of delays, the team has worked hard to finalize the details for this state-of-the-art female crash test dummy.
But here's where it gets controversial... Some might argue that the new dummy is a long time coming, while others may question whether it goes far enough.
The THOR-05F is expected to be available for use by manufacturers in 2027 or 2028.
