In plain terms, Minnesota Wild have acquired defenseman Roman Schmidt from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Boris Katchouk, the teams announced on Sunday.
Schmidt, 23 years old, has spent the season bouncing between the AHL and the NHL’s farm systems, skating in 29 AHL games this year with Syracuse Crunch and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, notching one assist. Across 79 career AHL appearances, he has three goals and seven points. He hails from Midland, Michigan and was selected 96th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Katchouk, 27, has appeared in three NHL games this season without recording a point. A Vancouver, British Columbia native, he has produced 15 goals and 36 points in 179 NHL games for Tampa Bay, Chicago, and Ottawa since being picked in the second round (44th overall) by the Lightning in the 2016 draft.
